If you’ve been keeping an ear on the latest gaming news, then you’ve heard of the latest Sega remake: The Sonic Mania.

Back in 2006, you’d probably never have imagined that Sega would come back with one of the greatest additions to the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy. After all, all the remakes that hit the scene after the ‘90s flopped. Something about not quite connecting with the original audience. However, when the company handed over control to developer-creator fans, Sonic Mania happened.

A detailed Look at Sonic Mania

Anyone who played the original blue hedgehog mascot games will appreciate how much the new game resembles the old ones. Sonic Mania comes with the same characters (Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails) chasing the same villainous Dr. Eggman. Eggman has stolen a few chaos stones and it’s up to the gang to retrieve them. Sonic uses his cool lightning-quick speed and awesome new power-ups (like the Drop Dash) to make his way through enemy territory and save the day. The fun scenery changes (4 out of 12 are new) and the soundscape is good, and then some. With the latest game, Sega does a decent job with the details.

However, like in the older Sonic modules, Sonic, in this case, is a tad slower than he should be, and not just in the running. He drags his feet when moving, jumping and even slowing down. While the rest of the game is a thumbs-up, this problem is disappointing in the remake. It was around with the ‘90s Sonic Mania trilogy, but with advances in modern technology, it shouldn’t be.

Sonic Mania is a great game by any standards, a favorite of the latest gaming news sites. It keeps the fans happy by sticking to its roots, but that’s also a problem. Keeping in time with the original is good, but not at the expense of keeping the flaws too.
